The Leicester FCEM Course of Spring 2012 took place on 14th & 15th April 2012 in the Postgraduate Medical Education Centre at Rotherham Hospital.

Over the 2 days, the course involved 36 OSCE stations, 4 rounds of CTR vivas, 4 rounds of Management vivas, 21 candidates, 16 faculty members, 16 actors, 1 skills instructor, and 3 corporate sponsors.

Some candidates were local to the Midlands and South Yorkshire, with others travelling to Rotherham from as far afield as Aberdeen, Bristol and Ireland. The faculty members included consultants and senior trainees from Leicester, Kettering, Mansfield, Rotherham, Sheffield, Kingston-Upon-Hull and Harlow.

In addition to the face-to-face instruction on the OSCE Day and the Viva Day in April 2012, candidates were given individual advice on their Clinical Topic Reviews (CTRs) prior to CTR submission in December 2011. Candidates also benefited from written Short Answer Question (SAQ) and Critical Appraisal (CA) components in March 2012 before the College of Emergency Medicine’s written exams.

Judging from the candidate feedback, the course was a tremendous success. Photos from the course are available at http://on.fb.me/fcem-2012

The course organisers – Dr Mandar Marathe (Leicester Royal Infirmary), Dr Steven How (Rotherham Hospital), Dr Chris Yap (Northern General Hospital, Sheffield) & Dr Roger Dalton (Northern General Hospital, Sheffield) – would like to thank all the actors and faculty for their positive support in making the course a success.

The next course will be in Autumn 2012, in preparation for the Autumn 2012 diet of the FCEM exam. Please contact info@LeicesterFCEM.com to register your interest in a place on the course.
